Introduction to File System (Microsoft)

What is File System? File System is a method of storing and organizing computer files or storage media in regulating the location of the file. We know there are some storage media, such as: diskette, CD-ROMs, hard disks, flash disks. Every media has a certain capacity for storage can be read by the operating system we choose.
In this paper, a file system which will be discussed is the file system made by Microsoft (MS-DOS, Win95/98, 2000, NT, XP, Vista). Capacity provided by each operating system will be different. Of course you never know there are some following terms FAT/FAT16 (File Allocation Table) VFAT (Virtual File Allocation Table), FAT32, NTFS (New Technology File System). Did you know that every file system above is unique. The following is a brief description:

FAT (File Allocation Table) or FAT16 is used on MS DOS and Win3x. only able to store and read files with a capacity of 2  Gigabyte  (1 Gigabyte = 1024 Megabytes). The number of  files  that can be read on the root directory: 512 files, while on nondirektori  of 65,335, does not support long file names (only format 8.3) and file security,

. VFAT (Virtual File Allocation Table) is used in Win95, able to store and read files with a capacity of 4 gigabytes. The number of files that can be read on the root directory: 512 files, while at nondirektori limitless, supports long file names and do not have a security file,

FAT32 is used on Win98, able to store and read files with a capacity of 4 terabytes (1 terabyte = 1024 Gigabytes). The number of files that can be read on the root directory and nondirektori infinite, for facilities and long file names with VFAT security files, has the advantage of auto repair file.

NTFS (New Technology File System) is used on Win2000, XP, Vista, is able to store and read files with a capacity of 16 Exabyte (1 Exabyte = 1024 Terabyte). Facility number of files that can be read on the root directory and nondirektori, long file names similar to the FAT, has the advantage of auto repair files, security files, files compression level, and supports dual fork file (Macintosh) and POSIX.

Technology developed by  Microsoft's  File System currently based NTFS, because Sotware and hardware needs today were increasingly  rapidly. NTFS is the file system is quite stable. The users of open source was interested in studying this system file. Hopefully this information useful. I wait for criticism and suggestions of readers.
